TAG: The meaning of "Ian"

I still have another tag by Huisia and Lil' Venture (Immomsdaughter) to do, but this particular tag is easier, so I thought I'll do it first before all my tag homework piles up. Got this from Lil' Devil and Firehorse (Fatty Poh Kopi Tiam) - thank you very much for including me!

So, what is in the name of Ian?

We initially shorlisted the names "Issac", "Joshua", "Tyler" and "Ian" for our baby, and I put up a poll among my Yahoo group friends (my ex-schoolmates from St. Teresa's) to choose the winning name. There was a tie between "Isaac" and "Ian", so that left us with the need to decide the "winner" ourselves. We decided on "Ian" because it means "God is good" and it is a Scottish variation of the name "John", which also holds a sentimental value to hubby who studied in Edinburgh before. Besides, my family likes the name "Ian" too.

I don't know Chinese, so I can't write it down here (eerr... haven't practised it yet), but I know Ian's Chinese name, Qinghao, means "strong and of superior power". We gave the honor to hubby's mom to choose the name, but she was flexible and suggested us to ask our eldest sister-in-law (hubby's eldest brother's wife) instead to list down the auspicious names, which she wrote in Chinese together with its English meaning. Actually, she gave us about 20 choices, and again, we shortlisted it down to the best 5 and polled it among our families. Everyone likes the name "Qinghao", and that's how we settled on that name.
